Vindalon, The Seeing Spirit

A character from Eivaris who will appear fairly early in the story.  Vindalon is an ancient being, considered a figure of myth by some humans.  He shares a unique tie to the earth, and his appearance is thought to precede great strife.  Some records even show him to be deadly.

EIVARIS: Character Stuff

Stuff!  And things!  I've been working quite a bit on this project over the last few months, trying to get everything designed for part one and two of the story.

After years of revision, the main cast's looks are completely finalized!
                                                    They're an odd group.

Side Characters from Chapter 1. Kaiyo's desert friends.

Oriasse Valewar, Queen of Klasgrienn. (with and w/o hair dyed black).

A possible design for one of the giants.  Bit of an oldie, this.

Character drawings of the main three,

A few characters from Part II.

And some WEAPONS.

More to come (hopefully soon)!  Thanks for reading!

GALATEA: Carracal

It's high time I wiped the dust off of this blog.  And how better to do so than with a new character?

The ultimate foe in Galatea is the bird sorcerer Carracal, long thought to be nothing more than a figure in an ancient story.

His motives are straightforward, and as he's very...birdlike, his range of emotions is relatively narrow.  He should be intimidating and command a powerful presence, so design would be particularly important.

I explored a handful of different looks for him, striving to avoid the somewhat overused "robed villain" shape.  Also, feathers and hawk-inspired elements would be prominent.

A distinctive visage is also a must.  His face and hair would also have birdlike features.  Additionally, I experimented with how human he would appear.  I found that the less human options were closer to the scary look I was after.

The final design!  His coloring and many details are inspired by the Striated Caracara (a breed of carrion hawk).

Lastly, I did a test comic panel to make sure the design accomplishes what I want it to.
I'm excited to start drawing him into the story!

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!

Life Drawings

I go to weekend life drawing sessions at school as often as I can.  It's really wonderful that the school offers this opportunity.  And I've finally got around to arranging a few of my favorite drawings on nice pages.
On several occasions, I've brought my laptop and tablet to get in some speed color practice. There are usually no desks in the room (everyone else uses easels), so it's a pretty awkward-looking setup.  Sometimes I wish I had a larger tablet, but life drawing class is never one of those times.

GALATEA: Character Portraits

Lately I've been seriously developing this story as an online graphic novel.  As a part of character creation, I drew out a bunch of these portrait busts to make sure each cast member has his/her own unique look and distinctive features.
The main character is Corin (the girl with the orange headband), and main/supporting cast is all mixed together here.
1st set= Corin and her family
2nd set= Crew of the Lady Epiphania
    3rd set= from the city

I also used these to make family trees.  Deciding which features to share between parents/children/siblings is a fun challenge.

Character Study: Adine

I've been trying to visualize this lady for a while.  She's the main antagonist of a graphic novel I'm currently planning.  It's always great exploring the personalities of smart, manipulative characters!
